ABSTRACT
Due to the recent developments witnessed in the world of computing, IT trends are continuously changing. This includes changes in the way information was gathered, managed, and processed. In this regard, cloud computing is considered to be the state-of-the-art technology to host and manage stored information on a network of shared resources. With the arrival of software-defined networking (SDN) technology, the intelligence from hardware devices shifted from vendors to application awareness concepts. This also led to the ease of development of network management functions and features. In this chapter, we give a quick look at the various aspects of application awareness in data center resource management.
