ABSTRACT
This chapter gives the overview of image shape feature. The importance of shape features used for image recognition is covered in this chapter. Various types of connectivity are included in this chapter. Different properties of shape features including translation, rotation and scale invariance, identifiability, noise resistance, affine invariance, occultation invariance, statistical independence and reliability are discussed in this chapter. This chapter contains information about different types of shape features such as contour-based and region-based. An overview of the global and structural shape features is also included in this chapter. Additionally, the basic idea of different applications of the shape feature is discussed.
