ABSTRACT

Formulation of research problems is discussed in chapter 2. Problem areas in the context of the widening ambit of natural, social and environmental phenomena are illustrated. Also considered are problem areas in the conceptual world, e.g. in the theory of numbers. Within each such problem area, one can identify research problems awaiting complete or even partial solutions. A relatively long list of research problems chosen from diverse fields of enquiry including physics, biology, economics, psychology, management, statistics etc. has been included to motivate research workers. At the end, the chapter focuses on the point of concrete formulation of a research problem to the extent possible at the beginning of the research process, allowing a possible revisit as different steps in the process progress.
