ABSTRACT

Different designs for research and development projects as somewhat distinct from designs for agricultural field experiments are discussed in this chapter. The chapter contains working details of important designs, with a focus on industrial and other research experiments. The case of multi-response experiments has been separately dealt with. Some designs like those used in mixture experiments or those used in process or product optimization in manufacturing or service organizations like the centroid designs or the Plackett-Burman design are also considered in some details. There is a brief exposition of Taguchi designs. A section on optimization experiments deals with response surface methodology and evolutionary operations. As in the previous chapter, open problem in designs of experiments – some of them examined by the author – are pointed out. Some of these problems are quite challenging and will draw the attention of serious research workers.
