ABSTRACT

Although there are many paleoanthropologists who could be mentioned, this discussion will be limited to just a few of the more prominent ones. Biographies and/or autobiographies of these pioneering scientists exist, and these books are worth reading. These pioneers have endured hardships to bring the story of human origins to us, and we should not underestimate their contributions. It is impossible to discuss these fossil-hunters without mentioning their discoveries, which were often new species of hominins. The species names follow an international standard. The standard convention for naming a fossil creature consists of two words: genus followed by species. For example, we are Homo sapiens.
