ABSTRACT

A blockchain is a public ledger to which anybody has access but which is not controlled by a central authority. It is a technology that allows individuals and businesses to cooperate in a secure and transparent manner. Cryptographic currencies like Bitcoin and others are one of the most well-known blockchain applications, although there are many others. The next fundamental revolution in information technology is expected to be driven by blockchain technology. Many blockchain implementations are widely available today, each with its own set of strengths for a certain application domain. This chapter gives participants knowledge and hands-on experience with blockchain technology and applications, as well as a theoretical investigation of potential smart city cases.
