ABSTRACT

A smart city is made up of several infrastructural components that come together to be able to manage, store, and work around resources found within a smart city. They provide a place for resources and services to be done and ensure that several specialized parts of the smart city are aggregated at one point to be interconnected with other specialized parts of a smart city. These infrastructures serve as tools on which the entire ecosystem of a smart city is built. It is thus important to understand what types of infrastructure will be needed in a smart city as well. It is important to be able to redesign these infrastructures to be able to accommodate the complexity of the blockchain as well as several entities found within a smart city. There is thus the need to study a smart city as a whole. In this part of the work, we take a look at infrastructure as a whole. We look at how smart cities with several sectors can be made interoperable. We also take a look at some very essential smart city infrastructural services that support the daily activities within a smart city. We take a critical look at some smart city infrastructural designs such as those for smart homes, waste management, and water distribution. We break down the blockchain components into blockchain unit, analytic platform, smart city control center, IoT connection, data integration platform, and data type aggregation center and transmission. All these considerations come together to ensure an effective design of infrastructure across all smart cities.
