Near field capable devices such as tablets and smartphones are sold everywhere today but seldom used for this purpose. The feature “tap and send” is the one mostly employed. For this to function one has to approach two devices in a way that their NFC-antennas touch each other or stay sepa-rated for just a few centimetres. The receiving device offers according to different apps selected in-formation, triggers an app or executes a data transfer. This can be controlled by “accept” or “reject” functions.

Besides this, read and write of NFC tags is the second field of usage of this technology. Such tags are on offer in many variations such as adhesive labels, key fobs as plastic cards etc.

This chapter will cover the technology and possible applications for smartphones and tablets.
