ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the issues of smart transportation, alternative fuels, advanced fuels, and new fuel technology. It looks at smart street design and its growing importance in urban growth today, transit-oriented development, and the ins and outs of sustainable transportation planning. The chapter looks at alternative fuels and advanced fuels, and then delves into new fuel technology. It explores the latest innovations that have been in the news recently. The technology has the potential to significantly reduce energy use and harmful emissions as well as the United States' dependency on foreign oil. The development of propulsion materials and technologies will help reduce costs while improving the durability and efficiency. Regardless of what future surprises technology has in store, one thing is certain: the issue of climate change must be addressed and acted upon immediately if there is to be a future with choices.
