ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at two important components in society today: agriculture and industry. It also looks at agriculture and some of the positive environmental steps it is taking, such as employing sustainable practices, organic farming, community-based approaches, healthy land management practices, and green conservation measures. The chapter focuses on industry and examines some of the exciting new trends emerging from that sector, including food security, ecologically sustainable development concepts, and eco-industrial parks (EIPs). Agriculture has several sustainable options available today. For example, the demand and increased revenue generated from organic products have changed the way many farmers are doing business. The United States Department of Agriculture says that organic farming has been one of the fastest growing segments of US agriculture for more than a decade. Ecologically sustainable development is a key aspect that will be required for all future businesses and economic ventures.
