ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at what will be required to work together as a world community to effectively deal with the problems of climate change and jointly achieve global sustainability. It highlights those cities in the United States and worldwide that have taken measures to cut greenhouse gases (GHGs) and reach toward a zero-carbon balance and applaud their outstanding achievements. Different countries fall under different groups with specific conforming regulations that they have agreed to follow to meet specific GHG concentration reduction levels. Unfortunately, the United States is not one of the ratifying countries in this landmark document. The Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD) Program is a partnership program established to help protect the ozone layer and reduce emissions of GHGs by recovering ozone-depleting chemicals from old refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners, and dehumidifiers.
