ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1, individual pixel values were considered independently, without regard to their location or the values of neighboring pixels. For example, the histogram presents a summary of pixel values that ignores their locations, and manipulation of the pixel values (RGB, HSI, or any other color space representation) is also independent of the color or brightness information in other nearby pixels. These operations are generally called pixel point processes, to distinguish them from neighborhood operations that treat each pixel as part of a local region.
