ABSTRACT
Executive summary: The “Spiral” methodology is one of the classic software engineering methodologies. It was first published in 1986 by the famous software author Dr. Barry Boehm of the University of Southern California. Because of Dr. Boehm’s work at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and with the defense community, Spiral was used early on by many defense projects. Spiral includes early risk analysis, which is a valuable feature.
