ABSTRACT

The molecular ion appears as a prominent peak at m/z 189, 18 mass units away from the following fragment (MS). Therefore a nitrogen compound with an OH group should be a promising candidate. In fact, the base peak showing up at m/z 130 (M-59) could correspond to a loss of a carboxymethyl unit, and loss of HCOOH (or CO2 and H2) would provide M-46, that is, m/z 143 (9%). However, there is no evidence of the presence of an amine group.
