ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to inverse problems governed by ordinary differential equations. The formulation and solution of inverse problems are essential tools in the calibration of ODE models such that their output optimally fits measurement data of the corresponding observed phenomena.

In order to formulate well-posed inverse problems, the strategy of Tikhonov regularisation is discussed and a connection to optimal control problems is drawn. A simple problem of parameter identification with a nonlinear model is discussed.
