ABSTRACT

The eld of swarm intelligence has gained popularity as a research interest of scientists belonging to various diverse elds over the recent year. Bonabeau [1] explained swarm intelligence as “any attempt to design algorithms or distributed problem-solving devices inspired by the collective behavior of social insect colonies and other animal societies.” His main focus was the behavior shown by social insects such as bees, wasps, termites, and other ant varieties. Articial bee colony (ABC) is considered a pioneer among the swarm intelligence algorithms, based on the honey bee foraging behavior. This chapter explains the concepts and applications related to ABC in detail.
