Food display cabinets are the main refrigerated fixtures in modern food retail stores. The

refrigeration systems that serve the refrigerated cabinets and other refrigerated fixtures, such

as walk-in coolers, consume close to 50% of the total energy consumption of the store and so

their efficiency and food storage integrity are critical to the economic viability of the store and

to the impact of retail food stores on the environment.
