ABSTRACT

A 30-year-old, G1P0 woman of Chinese descent is sent to you for fetal consultation at 22 weeks of gestation. A recently performed fetal ultrasound showed a distinct echogenic structure in the left thorax of a female fetus, abutting the diaphragm, measuring 1.7 × 1.7 × 2.0 cm, associated with a discrete feeding vessel. There is a slight shift of the heart to the right, but no pleural or pericardial effusions. Amniotic fluid volume and the remainder of the fetal survey are normal. The ultrasound images are shown in Figures 10.1 and 10.2.
