ABSTRACT
Fetal ultrasound performed at 18 weeks of gestation in a 34-year-old, G2P1, Asian woman shows a left pleural effusion, measuring 3.8 × 3.0 × 2.2 cm, in a female fetus. There is some evidence of mild mediastinal shift to the right and mild polyhydramnios. Two small insignificant choroid plexus cysts are seen, but the fetal survey is otherwise normal. The obstetrician calls you to discuss the findings prior to referring the patient for fetal consultation.
