ABSTRACT
A 2-year-old boy, of Filipino origin, is referred by his pediatrician with a 4-week history of an increasing mass in the right pre-auricular and submandibular area. The child was born in North America and has no significant medical history, travel history, or unusual exposures. The enlarging mass has not been associated with fever, systemic symptoms, or neck pain. Empiric treatment with a course of oral amoxicillin produced no results, and the skin overlying the mass has become more inflamed. A picture of the child is shown in Figure 2.1.
