ABSTRACT

A 2-year-old Caucasian boy with Down syndrome presents to the emergency room with a 3-day history of cough, wheezing, tachypnea, and fever. His symptoms have worsened since his first presentation 2 days previously, when he was diagnosed with an upper respiratory tract infection. He has no history of any congenital anomalies or prior operations. However, over the previous year, he has been frequently congested and has suffered from several episodes of pharyngitis and otitis media.
