ABSTRACT

A coherent picture of the battlespace is a critical enabler for joint warfare. When such a picture depicts and tracks the location of all aerospace objects and distinguishes friend from foe, it is called the Single Integrated Air Picture (or SIAP for short). The primary network used by all the military Services today to create such a picture is called Link 16.2 Link 16 operates on two advanced radio transceiver terminals: the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) and the Multifunction Information Distribution System (MIDS).
