ABSTRACT

This chapter is devoted to luminaires, which are dened here simply as sources for articial and natural light. Of course, the ordinary window can provide excellent light, but it is also capable of giving visual indoors-outdoors contact, and such windows were discussed at length in Chapter 4. Lighting is currently undergoing revolutionary changes, and nanoscience and nanotechnology are instrumental in these changes. Figure 5.1 illustrates one aspect and shows organic nanowires that serve as very efcient emitters of white light [1]. This type of lighting will be discussed in detail later in this chapter.
