ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are increasing around the world among health care workers who routinely perform ultrasounds (sonographers). This is due to the upper extremity-intensive nature of their work and the high grip force required to scan increasing numbers of obese patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate a product (transducer rings) to determine if it could potentially reduce required grip force and upper extremity pain among sonographers. The results of this product evaluation indicate there may be a benefit to installing rings on ultrasound transducers, particularly for those who already have high levels of upper extremity pain.
