ABSTRACT
Developing countries constitute the great majority of the tropics. Technical tools and principles of urban drainage control that are well-known in developed countries are not always successfully applied there. Consequently, stormwater management measures in the humid tropics should be adapted to both climatic and socioeconomic conditions. As such, the principal elements of stormwater management in the tropics are: climate, socioeconomic factors and institutional aspects.
