ABSTRACT
Urban areas in developing countries are frequently characterized by rapid expansion. During the process of unregulated urbanization, the lack of regulation of construction sites favours the excessive production of sediments, which are washed off with runoff. In addition, in informal settlements, unsurfaced public areas are common and these areas increase sediment concentrations in runoff.
