ABSTRACT
Water is a mechanism for the transmission of many pathogens and other microbial and chemical pollutants. A wide variety of these pollutants contaminate water sources, affecting the potability of the water and potentially causing a range of illnesses and diseases. This chapter concentrates on pollutants that adversely affect human health, and discusses ways to mitigate potential public health risks associated with urban water systems in the humid tropics.
