ABSTRACT

The electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) grinding method is not a complex machining process but a grinding technique whose ability is maintained by assistance of the special ELID. One of the authors did not give the in-process term the meaning “continuous” because the electrolytic phenomenon did not seem to be so continuous but adaptive to the dressing requisition. Figure 1.1 shows the principle of the proposed ELID grinding method.1-7 The wheel is at the +Ve pole with a brush smoothly contacted, and the electrode ‘xed below is at the –Ve pole. In the small clearance of approximately 0.1 mm between the –Ve and the +Ve poles, electrolysis occurs upon the supply of grinding ˜uid and an electrical current. The electrolysis is greatly helpful for maintaining of the protrudent grains on the wheel surface and chip removal.
