ABSTRACT
Chapter 5 dealt with sustainability and concrete pavements in a classical way and discussed some potential areas for future development. In recent years, roller compacted concrete (RCC) technology has caught up in sustainable pavements from its conventional use in large hydraulic structures, such as dams. This chapter is thus a logical extension to the discussion on concrete pavements. Potential bene’ts of using Portland cement concrete, including the sustainably bene’cial use of supplementary cementitious materials, recycled concrete aggregates, and other wastes, have already been discussed. With the road infrastructure playing a decisive role in in£uencing the economies of the United States (a developed country) and India (a developing country), it is imperative to appreciate and critically evaluate the existing ways of
