ABSTRACT

It was shown in Chapter 5 that a revolution is needed in the concepts, policies, technology, planning, and management of India’s waters. We demonstrated the possibility of some novel technologies to allow us to revolutionize the development and management of India’s waters. Because development has to be undertaken in terms of river basins, implications and future perspectives in terms of them have to be developed. We first briefly consider the Indus basin, whose development has been undertaken on a pioneering basis. This is followed by the Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) basin, which is the key to the ushering of the revolution. It has to be considered in terms of the riparian countries because it is an international river basin even though India is the dominant component. Study of the peninsular region follows.
