ABSTRACT
Cells are not bags of randomly mixing molecules but are highly organized entities with rich internal structures. On a gross level, a cell can be viewed as being divided into a number of compartments separated by lipid bilayer membranes, but even within a given compartment complex, macromolecular assemblies help to maintain the shape and function of the whole.
