ABSTRACT

Awareness of the JNC-7 Guidelines is also useful for comparison with hypertension in other parts of the world. In 2013, the European Societies of Hypertension and Cardiology published recommendations for classification of BP (Table 2.2). These guidelines use the same classifications for non-hypertensive patients as JNC-7 and the same starting BP levels to define hypertensive patients, but they define three stages of hypertension (Table 2.2): stage 1 (140-159/90-99 mmHg); stage 2 (160-179 mmHg/100-109 mmHg); stage 3 (patients with BP levels higher than 180/110 mmHg)).
