ABSTRACT

For many centuries, rat-bite fever has been recognized in patients who became ill after being bitten by a rat. Wagabhatt, who lived in India 2300 years ago, reported that many people bitten by rats develop a skin rash. The rst medical description of rat-bite fever in North America was made by Eli Ives during 1831, in Europe by Millot-Carpentier a half century later, and in Japan by Miyaki during 1900 (Will 1994, Gaastra et al. 2009).
