ABSTRACT

Ester Boserup was a truly original scholar who challenged many prevailing economic development theories and became the guru of the women and international development field. She was such a towering scholar, that her publications are more often quoted than read. Most people recall one or two ideas from her books and articles and overlook her many other insights. Boserup wove her examination of agriculture, technology, population, and women into a unified model that strengthened her analysis of the separate disciplines.
