ABSTRACT

With the FCC’s blessing, HD Radio’s proponents may have thought they were free and clear to implement the technology with few restrictions, and that its uptake would be a given. However, as stations began to implement HD Radio and iBiquity Digital Corporation refined its system, its fundamental faults became increasingly clear. This further alienated independent broadcasters and the public, who were already of the mind that such a questionable and proprietary technology threatened the viability of terrestrial radio itself.
