ABSTRACT

Rohinton Mistry is the author of three novels and several short stories set

amidst the closely knit and isolated Parsi community in Bombay. His first

collection of stories, Tales from Firozsha Baag (1987), explores the pos-

ition of the Parsi in postcolonial India as well as pointing to a sense of

unease created in the figures from this community who chose to emigrate.

As the protagonist says in ‘Lend Me Your Light’ – one of the stories – ‘I am

guilty of the sin of hubris for seeking emigration out of the land of my
