ABSTRACT
As reporters gain experience and confidence, they are ready to move beyond the reactive mode of beat coverage and start to act on the insights they have gained from their regular study of and writing about the news on a particular topic. This chapter explains how DOT applies to large reporting projects by analyzing the process by which major stories get reported.
