ABSTRACT

ORGANISATION(S) The word ‘organisation(s)’ is used here in three ways; the particular contents and arguments of this chapter make it desirable to define them.

1 ORGANISATION: the process of organising. 2 ORGANISATION(S): a place or institution (like a residential home)

or a formation of people and groups which has a common and defined overall task (like a social services department or a voluntary society).

3 ORGANISATION: an established way of working or of conducting business, a complex construction of rules, procedures, guidelines and common practice which is created over time and is intended to help the achievement of the task in hand.
