ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Don Hayward provides a personal account of how the foundation was laid for Schools of the Future in Victoria. After setting the scene when the Liberal National Government came to power in 1992, a deeply personal account is given of his early upbringing and work experience that shaped his attitudes to schooling and the role of government. This experience lay in politics, as a parliamentary adviser, but most notably at senior levels in the corporate sector. He outlines how a program of reform was developed during the years in Opposition, ensuring mobilization on assumption of power.
