ABSTRACT

It is difficult to speak of originality or authenticity in writing without first speaking of their opposite – kitsch.

The word kitsch comes from German: verkitschen means to make cheap or cheapen, and kitschen means to collect trash. Kitsch is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as: decoration characterized by worthless pretension to art: poor, trashy, slapdash taste, something cobbled together; to render worthless; to affect with sentimentality and vulgarity.
