ABSTRACT

Television has been one of the most significant entertainment tools and the most reliable news distributor since its inception. As our society has focused on more visual-driven mass media, television has functioned as the core of the media industry and audio-visual culture for everyone. From the early black and white television era to the very nascent Internet television era, television is a major part of everyday life. It is certain that several new media and social media, including the Internet and social networking sites (SNSs, e.g., Facebook), have rapidly grown and replaced some TV functions. As the survey of 50 countries found, people who watched television indeed declined 7% in 2011, primarily because people who watch video content on computers increased (Nielsen, 2012); however, television viewing still remains popular, and television will continue to influence our culture and economy in somewhat different degrees in the 21st century.
