ABSTRACT

This chapter opens with a discussion of instruction based on behaviorism. Then this chapter discusses the variability of apps implementing behaviorist instruction. The third section of this chapter describes how to port the Times Table app from Chapter 3 to a web interface. This section provides a design specification, which identifies the target learners and the instructional objective. In addition, the design specification provides an image of the instructional app and details important to app development. The third section also presents exercises to refine the app, which are provided to enhance skill to create instructional apps. The fourth section of this chapter describes how to create an instructional app through which one can learn words for colors in multiple languages. Beyond the Times Table app, this instructional app adds new media, including color swatches and sound, which enhance presentation and feedback. This section also provides a design specification, which identifies the target learners and the instructional objective. In addition, the design specification provides an image of the instructional app and details important to app development. The fourth section also presents exercises to refine the app, which are provided to enhance skill to create instructional apps. In this case, the enhancements may lead to development of an instructional game.
