ABSTRACT

The establishment of the Skarżysko camp in August 1942 marks the start of its “external history”—the policies of the Hasag management and other pertinent authorities regarding the camp and the manner in which Jewish workers were recruited. The two years of the camp's existence may be divided into three periods differentiated by the place from which prisoner transports originated and the time of their arrival:

The Radom Period— From August 1942 to late Summer 1943, when transports arrived from towns in the Radom district;

The Majdanek Period— From June to late November 1943, when prisoners from the Majdanek concentration camp were brought to Skarzysko;

The Płaszów Period— from November 1943 to August 1944, when transports of thousands of Jews from the Płaszów camp arrived.
