ABSTRACT

This chapter encourages the people to not leap to conclusions about technology, to understand that there are many factors in their child's behavior. Prevention science is a multidisciplinary methodology that works to lessen or prevent dysfunctional human behavior. Prevention science has decades of research behind it; and it can help the reader understand digital behaviors as well as those in real life. In prevention science there are risk factors and protective factors. However, prevention science provides the reader a framework to get as close to that 100% prevention as possible. Social emotional learning skills are important for parents to develop to help mitigate and potentially prevent unhealthy digital behaviors and attitudes. The causes of behavior are complicated with many risk factors. Parents and caregivers should not assume technology is causing the problem.
