ABSTRACT

A research study of over 3,000 Generation Alphas and adults in 2019 reported in Hotwire, a global communications agency, shares some hopeful statistics. This chapter helps take that thinking to positive and proactive strategies for parenting around technology. It focuses on birth to age 8, when children start going through puberty. Despite trying to primarily use YouTube Kids in her home, Gathu comments, "YouTube is less restricted than YouTube Kids, but also more of our default on TVs, which means the people aren't usually setting a timer or anything". Much of the research on Generation Alpha and more details about this cohort can be found on marketing websites, not educational ones. There are more apps, games, YouTube channels, and content directed at young children. Programming for toddlers and preschoolers is full of gender stereotypes. For infants and toddlers who are still learning language, engage in questions.
