ABSTRACT

‘Inclusion’ has many definitions but essentially it is about every student having an entitlement to personal, social and intellectual development and being given an opportunity to achieve his/her potential. Schools with a multi-modal approach employ the principles of ‘SF3R’. In this acronym, S stands for ‘Structure’ which is in essence the values, rules and systems those children and young people need in order to make sense of the world around them. F stands for ‘Flexibility’, where adaptation to a range of different circumstances will complement the structure in children’s lives and allow freedom, opportunity and fun for all involved. The 3Rs stand for ‘Rapport, Relationships and Role models’ which are the means of selling, supporting and sustaining the long-term success of a structured yet flexible approach. A useful activity with pupils who have ADHD can be to research famous people known to have or to have had the disorder.
