ABSTRACT
With the expansion of English to many corners of the world, it has become vital to profile countries and regions where that language is used in an attempt to understand social dynamics, political concerns, educational needs, and other aspects of the universe of Englishes. World Englishes is a field of expertise in which researchers, scholars, and teachers seek to investigate and understand the dynamics of English use, its expressions around the world, the many forms that English(es) takes, the status of different varieties, and the motivations that propel the spread and maintenance of English. Studying and reporting on the time and means by which English arrived in a particular area is another task often performed by profilers. The interpersonal function is realized through communication among people. A sociolinguistic profile can rely on a variety of methodologies to gauge attitudes toward a language.
