ABSTRACT

Tracing Tencent’s footprints shows how this China-based digital giant has become substantially transnationalized and integrated. By studying Tencent, this book contributes to three areas of knowledge: the political-economy theory of the Internet, the characteristics of Chinese Internet companies, and China’s contemporary transformation. In particular, by demonstrating that Tencent has grown out of the joint efforts by the Chinese state and transnational financial capital, the book contributes, both theoretically and empirically, to the understanding of two emerging and entangling trends in global political economy: transnationalization and financialization.
