ABSTRACT
Messy and contentious, anthropomorphism has its own discursive history, and it is through the criticisms levelled at it that we arrive at an understanding of what it means as a practice at any given time. This chapter discusses different sites of anthropomorphism in relation to the mediation of animal lives and experience. Informing this chapter is the question of power and ‘who’ is culturally authorised to mediate.
