ABSTRACT

This chapter targets why change is so difficult. An understanding of the change process is important for planning for a genuine transformation to occur. Positive change is illustrated with examples of major developments in the scientific world, highlighting that change enables individuals to realize greater possibilities. Change in education requires imagination and vision. Part of the change process is an understanding that the multiage teacher cannot serve two masters; one driven by tests and curriculum and the other focused on a child-centered, constructivist approach. Change as a process is considered in regard to administration, teachers, parents, and children. This chapter assists educators with guidelines for multiage planning, implementation, and assessment, as well as supporting multiage once it is implemented. Schooling can be changed for greater possibilities and for the benefit and well-being of our children.
